Maya Allison is an independent curator of contemporary art. She recently departed as Curator at the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University, to relocate to Abu Dhabi, after a sojourn in Kunming, China this fall.
Past curatorial positions include Director of the 5 Traverse Gallery (2009-2010) and Program Director of the annual new media showcase Pixilerations (2008, 2009). As Curatorial Assistant in Contemporary Art at the RISD Museum (2005-08), she curated Music Video/Silent Film and co-produced Wunderground: Providence 1995-2005. While at the Bell Gallery (2010-2011) she curated Alison Owen’s divisibility, the Faculty Triennial, and Among The Breakage: New Painting From Providence (co-curated with Neal Walsh).
She holds a BA from Reed College, an MFA from Columbia University, and in 2008 completed a research fellowship on curatorial practices at Brown’s Center for Public Humanities. She was honored to win a 2009 New England Art Award for her work as a curator.
